Superconducting magnets

The experience of the group in the modelling of the superconducting magnets for fusion applications has been built during the last 20 years. The focus of the work in the field of superconducting magnets and cryogenics has been on the development, verification, validation and application of models and codes for the multi-physics analysis of superconducting magnets with particular emphasis on the thermal-hydraulics. Within these activities, supported for many years by several institutions including EFDA, F4E, ITER International Organization, US ITER Project Office, KIT, Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research, a series of codes were developed, culminating in the multi-scale 4C code. These activities led to the production of more than 90 publications in International Journals in the field of applied superconductivity, magnet technology and cryogenics co-authored by members of the group.
