System-level modelling of tokamak reactors

In view of the large expertise of the group in the thermal-hydraulic modelling, since 2015 the development of global thermal-hydraulic models for tokamak fusion reactors has started, thanks to a tight collaboration with the EUROfusion Programme Management Unit, leading to the creation of the fast-running GEneral Tokamak THErmal-hydraulic Modelling (GETTHEM) tool. This opened the way to a set of possible applications, as, for instance, the thermal-hydraulic analysis of the EU DEMO Helium-Cooled Pebble Bed Breeding Blanket concept or the transient analysis of the EU DEMO Vacuum Vessel Pressure Suppression System during and in-vessel LOCA.
